The Basel Peace Office, Youth Fusion and the President’s Department of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are pleased to announce the finalists of the Basel PACEY Plus Award 2021, a prize honouring and supporting youth-led projects to advance peace, climate protection and disarmament, especially nuclear disarmament.

Nuclear policies of North Korea and Iceland challenged in the UN Human Rights Committee

January 4, 2021.
Basel Peace Office joined with other peace and disarmament organisations in submissions made today to the United Nation Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) challenging the nuclear weapons policies of North Korea and Iceland as being in violation of the Right to Life, a core human right codified in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

On UN Human Rights Day, 10 December 2020, students, young professionals and young activists from around the world joined together to launch Youth Fusion, a new platform for youth-led actions and initiatives to achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world.

Basel Peace Office welcomes the ratification of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) by 50 states, this number being reached on October 24, enabling the treaty to enter into force in January 2021. At that time the treaty will become legally binding for the states that have ratified.
