The UN holds its annual Civil Society Conference from May 9-10 in Nairobi, Kenya. Basel Peace Office is cosponsoring a number of events during the conference including the Peace and Future Generations Solidarity Walk, which will take place on May 10.
The Walk will engage participants of the UN Civil Society Conference, in addition to members of the public interested in sports, peace and protection of society and the planet for future generations. It will also highlight the positive role that sports can play to bring together people from different cultures, nations, ethnicities and backgrounds to build peace and to support humanity and a sustainable future for all.
The walk is being led by Tegla Loroupe, first African woman to win the New York marathon and a champion of sports for peace, and her foundation the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation. It is cosponsored by Basel Peace Office, World Future Council and many other organizations. Over 200 people have already registered to participate. it will include music, bottle water and refreshments and an interactive activity the 'Wall of Fame.'

Walk goes to Karura Forest and back, a 4km walk.
Call to Action
It will promote a Call to Action which, amongst other things:

Supports a UN Special Envoy for Future Generations and similar representatives of future generations at local, national and regional levels;

Calls for full implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030;

Promotes the objective of the UN to ‘save succeeding generations from the scourge of war’ through better use of diplomacy, negotiation, mediation and the universal acceptance of jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice:

Build a global green and wellbeing economy based on protection of the environment, social justice, and eliminating the inequalities between developing and developed countries.
