Nuclear weapons and the UN human rights bodies

On October 30, 2018, the UN Human Rights Committee (HRC) adopted a new General comment No. 36 (2018) on article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), on the right to life, which concludes that the threat or use of nuclear weapons is incompatible with the Right to Life and may amount to a crime under international law.

Bike for Peace tours Switzerland with nuclear disarmament message

In January this year the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists set the Doomsday Clock at 100 Seconds to Midnight, indicating how close humanity is to an existential catastrophe from nuclear war or climate collapse. Bike for Peace, a member of the Abolition 2000 global network to eliminate nuclear weapons, is a public initiative that highlights what every-day citizens can do.

US-Russia Strategic Stability Dialogue begins in Geneva

On July 28, senior officials and diplomats from the United States and Russia held the first meeting in Geneva for the ‘integrated bilateral Strategic Stability Dialogue’ which was agreed by Presidents Biden and Putin at their Summit Meeting on June 16.
