Schweizer Anwälte für Nukleare Abrüstung, the Association of Swiss Lawyers for Nuclear Disarmament (SAFNA), is an organization of lawyers and legal scholars/academics working for the global elimination of nuclear weapons.
SAFNA raises awareness amongst students, governments and the wider public - including legal circles and at the United Nations - of the dangers of nuclear weapons and the application of law to nuclear policies and practices. This includes implementation of existing law prohibiting the proliferation and use of nuclear weapons and requiring their elimination, as well as advancing additional legal measures to implement these obligations.
SAFNA offers information and advice to interested persons with a view to advancing the cause of disarmament, in particular through the application and use of law. SAFNA is politically and religiously neutral and places the humanitarian aspect and the victims of nuclear weapons at the center of its activities. It respects gender diversity and equality.
SAFNA also supports broader efforts to strengthen and apply international humanitarian law, to promote friendly settlement of disputes and to regulate the international arms trade.
SAFNA is the Swiss affiliate of the International Association of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms. In 2016 SAFNA hosted the IALANA Annual Assembly in Lausanne, Switzerland.
