Advance notice:
On July 23, just before the opening of the Olympic Games, we will launch Nuclear Games, a new and innovative platform about the risks and human impact of nuclear weapons and nuclear energy. (Click here for the Nuclear Games flyer)
Nuclear Games includes a series of five manga stories, a 65-minute long animated film and a completely new product, an animated, interactive “web-documentary.” To get a flavour of Nuclear Games, we invite you to watch a short trailer.
This resource is being developed (in English and German) by Docmine, a Swiss-based creative studio, with support from Basel Peace Office, Youth Fusion and Physicians for Social Responsibility Switzerland. The platform will use story-telling and pop-culture animation, to reach audiences far beyond those who typically watch political documentaries and engage in peace & disarmament actions. It will have particular resonance with younger generations - most of whom do not know these important stories from the nuclear age.
The innovative approach of Nuclear Games has caught the attention of Swiss TV One, which on June 27, airs a 75 minute program that introduces Nuclear Games (the German version) and 3 of the manga stories, and holds a discussion on the issues and the approaches that Nuclear Games is taking to educate and engage public in these issues.
“We see this as a wonderful tool for engaging more (especially young) people in the peace and nuclear disarmament movement,” say Marzhan and Vanda, conveners of Youth Fusion.
Nuclear Games includes manga stroies from the Cuban Missile Crisis, uranium mining in Niger, the Chernobyl nuclear accident, nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands, and the North Korean nuclear program.
You can learn more and become involved by subscribing to Youth Fusion, and by following the Nuclear Games Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.
In addition, at the Abolition 2000 Annual Meeting on June 19, a Team to Advance Nuclear Games (TANG) was established to help nuclear abolition campaigners use Nuclear Games to attract and engage youth and other members of the public in their organizations and activities. We invite you and/or your organization to learn more about, and participate in, Nuclear Games by:
- Booking a free online screening of the animated film. Details about the online screening and how to book are here.
- Joining a TANG webinar on July 6 or 7 on how to best use Nuclear Games to attract and engage youth (and others) in your organization and activities (click here or reply to Vanda to indicate your interest).
And stay tuned. We will soon announce the details of the global launch event for Nuclear Games.
