Nuclear weapons policies and climate change continue to pose existential threats to current and future generations. Furthermore, the current armed conflicts in Israel/Gaza and Russia/Ukraine are creating catastrophic humanitarian, economic and environmental consequences, and are increasing the threat of nuclear weapons use.
What policies internationally and at country level can address jointly appearing issues of climate change and militarism? And how can the interests of the global youth be included in policy decisions on these issues? Are youth movements able to contribute and make a difference? Can the United Nations make a difference – including the pending International Court of Justice case on climate change and the 2024 UN Summit of the Future?
The Basel 2024 Intergenerational Forum on Peace, Climate Nuclear Disarmament and the UN Summit of the Future will bring together policy makers, youth activists and professionals to discuss these questions, and international initiatives that might provide solutions for a sustainable future.
It is held as a side event of the 2024 Basel Peace Forum and in conjunction with the 2024 Award ceremony for the Peace, nuclear Abolition and Climate Engaged Youth (PACEY) Award.
