Launch of Japanese version of Nuclear Disarmament Guide for Religious Leaders and Communities

On 13 December, religious leaders, disarmament experts and civil society advocates met at the Fumon Hall in Tokyo, the centre of the Buddhist order Rissho Kosei-kai, to participate in the launch of the Japanese version of a Nuclear Disarmament Guide for Religious Leaders and Communities which has been produced by Religions for Peace.

Global Zero: the United Nations, diplomacy and eliminating WMD

In the wake of recent diplomatic successes to address the chemical weapons of Syria and the nuclear program of Iran, Global Zero, a global movement of high level experts and civil society campaigners, has called on the UN Security Council to use similar diploatic efforts to eliminate all weapons of mass destruction (WMD) including nuclear weapons.

PNND leaders promote new parliamentary appeal on nuclear abolition

Three of the PNND Co-Presidents - Saber Chowdhury, Sue Miller and Uta Zapf - this month circulated a new parliamentary appeal on nuclear aboliton to members of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament (PNND) encouraging them to endorse, and to use the appeal to build political will from governments to negotiate for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.

Time to walk through the door to a nuclear weapons free world: Support the UN resolution

On Friday 18 October, Ambassador Manuel Dengo (Costa Rica) introduced a draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly "Taking forward multilateral nuclear disarmament negotiations" on follow-up to the incredibly successful UN Open Ended Working Group which met during 2013 in Geneva and 'opened the door to a nuclear weapons free world.'

French parliamentarians send letter to UN supporting nuclear disarmament process

On 18 October, five leading French parliamentarians sent a letter to key ambassadors to the United Nations in New Yotk supporting the UN Open Ended Working Group on Taking Forward Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament Negotiations (OEWG).

PNND Co-Presidents Uta Zapf (Germany) and Sue Miller (UK House of Lords) today called on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to renew the mandate of the UN Open Ended Working Group on Taking Forward Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament Negotiations (OEWG) during the current session of the UNGA in New York.
